Born in Taoyuan, Taiwan, Chi-Yuan Lin is a conductor at the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center of Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the first Taiwanese artist appointed to this prestigious program. She is also the newly appointed Music Director of the Friday Morning Music Club’s Avanti Orchestra in Washington, D.C., beginning with the 2024–25 season.
At Lyric Opera of Chicago, Lin will serve on the music staff for Medea, Cavalleria rusticana & Pagliacci, Carmina Burana, Salome, and Madama Butterfly in the 2025/26 Season, following her work on Fidelio in 2024/25. She has appeared as a cover conductor with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and São Paulo Symphony Orchestra.
In summer 2025, Lin served as Associate Conductor for The Flying Dutchman at Des Moines Metro Opera and on the music staff of the Apprentice Artist Program. Recent seasons have included conducting Die Zauberflöte at the Bergen National Opera Summer Academy in Norway, participating in the Fiskars Summer Festival in Finland, and leading the Symphony Orchestra of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. She has also collaborated with the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra’s Educational Program, working closely with youth musicians and emerging artists.
Lin was awarded a conducting fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival in 2021 and was a mentee in the She’s Connected Project as part of the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship (2023/24).
She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Orchestral Conducting at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where she studies with Marin Alsop and Joseph Young. She holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from National Taiwan Normal University, where she studied with Professor Apo Ching-Hsin Hsu.
